RF Microneedling Q & A

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is an aesthetic procedure for revitalizing the skin, helping you to look younger and fresher using the power of your body’s regenerative abilities.

Microneedling treatment can:

  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Tighten the skin
  • Improve skin texture
  • Reduce large pores
  • Improve skin tone

The team at Refine Medical Aesthetics use the Vivace Experience™ Microneedling RF device, which uses new generation radiofrequency microneedling technology for optimal results.

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling uses many tiny needles to create minute wounds in the skin. These wounds stimulate the body’s natural repair processes, creating fresh skin and underlying tissues that are firmer and smoother.

The Vivace microneedling device goes a step further than standard microneedling units, as it also applies radiofrequency (RF) technology to stimulate the growth of new collagen fibers in the skin.

Collagen is a substance your body produces that keeps your skin tight and causes the underlying tissues to plump, but with age, collagen production slows down. By stimulating your system with RF waves, Vivace boosts new collagen growth at the same time that the microneedling is stimulating new, healthier skin growth.

What does microneedling treatment feel like?

The Vivace unit has a precision robotic motor, which means it’s able to deliver the microneedling wounds with such accuracy that it causes minimal discomfort when compared to other microneedling systems. When used with numbing cream, the treatment is virtually painless, and the after-effects of treatment are minimal.

One treatment session takes around 45 minutes, but the numbing cream needs to go on about 45 minutes before the microneedling starts. You can have a single treatment, but for most patients, three Vivace treatments at four to six-week intervals provide the most dramatic effect.

There are also treatment serums and recovery care that go with the Vivace Experience, ensuring you’re as comfortable as possible and enjoy a successful result. You should see an improvement right away, but as the body works over the weeks after treatment to generate new tissue, it can take several months before you see the final result.

Your practitioner at Refine Medical Aesthetics can advise you on how to care for your skin after treatment to help you get the results you want, for example, you may need to wait before applying makeup and stay out of the sun. The effects of microneedling can last for months and even years in some patients.
