Injectables Q & A

What are injectables?

Injectables are substances that reverse the signs of aging when injected into the face or hands.

The advantage of injectables is that they fulfill the role of more invasive procedures such as face and brow lifts without the accompanying risk and discomfort associated with surgery.

What kinds of injectable treatments are available?

The team at Refine Medical Aesthetics uses the most effective, proven injectables for their patients, such as:

Botox®

Botox is the original injectable treatment, and after 30 years of use as a medical and more recently aesthetic treatment, it’s still one of the most popular aesthetic procedures. Botox is derived from the botulinum toxin and works by blocking signals from the nerves that contract facial muscles. This means the muscles relax, and lines and wrinkles smooth out.

Juvéderm Ultra Plus® and Voluma®

Juvéderm is a dermal filler, which is a substance injected into the spaces in between the fibers of the facial tissues to plump up hollows and firm the skin. Your skin naturally loses volume and firmness as you age, partly as a result of your body producing less hyaluronic acid. The active ingredient in both Juvéderm Ultra Plus and Voluma is hyaluronic acid, providing a natural method of restoring a more youthful appearance.

Ultra Plus is designed to treat deep wrinkles, nasolabial folds either side of your nose, and marionette lines at the corners of your mouth. Ultra Plus is often used to carry out what’s known as a liquid face-lift, where your practitioner sculpts the entire face. It’s also effective for treating signs of aging such as loose skin on the hands.

Voluma is a specialist treatment for age-related midface volume loss, which is the hollowing of cheeks that happens as you grow older.

How long do the effects of injectable treatments last?

The effects of Botox treatment can last for up to four months, so you need to return to Refine Medical Aesthetics around three times a year to maintain the improvement in your wrinkles.

Juvéderm treatments can last for up to two years, and follow-up sessions typically require less filler than the initial treatments.

In all cases, your expert team at Refine Medical Aesthetics can advise you how often you need to come back for additional treatments.
